As individuals, couples, and families move through life, they may meet a number of challenges. The Counseling Clinic's staff consists of professional therapists who are trained to assist with almost any issue you and your family may be facing.

 

Jim Dercks

 

Degrees/Licenses:

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Rockford University

Master's Degree in Counseling from Lakeland College

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

 

Experience:

Has worked with children, at-risk youth, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations using individual therapy or group therapy with experience in the holistic approach of healing mind, body, and spirit.

 

Specialties:

Works with clients, ages seven to older adult, presenting with mental and behavioral health concerns. Provides treatment related to depression, anxiety, stress management, anger management, self-esteem, and grief and loss. Focus is on mindfulness based Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Choice Theory, and Person-Centered Therapy. A holistic approach is taken to healing mind, body, and spirit as needed in a person’s life.


 

Brandon Franzke

Experience:

Has worked with at-risk youth, behaviorally challenged children and adolescents, and adults. Has experience with self-harm and depression/anxiety, both individually and in groups and experience with transgender individuals.

 

Specialties:

Works with clients, ages 6 to older adult, who are presenting with mental and behavioral health concerns. Provides treatment related to depression, anxiety, stress management, anger management, self-esteem, values, positive communication, expressing feelings and emotions, self-harm behaviors and teaches positive coping skills. Focus is on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Anger Management, Coping Skills and Play Therapy.


 

Katy Keefe-Neilson

Experience:

Katy has worked with high-risk youth, adolescents, adults, couples, families, individually and in groups, with experience in a variety of settings including: day-treatment, university and schools, as well as outpatient.

 

Specialties:

Katy works with client’s ages from thirteen to adult presenting with mental health and behavioral concerns. She provides treatment relating to: anxiety, depression, self-harm, stress management, self-esteem, relationship concerns, divorce, family dynamics, and life-span changes. Her focus in integrative therapy is designed and tailored for each unique individual. She often uses Positive and Strength Based Psychotherapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Art Therapy and Family Systems.


 

Kahli Nelson

Experience:

Two years of experience providing case management to individuals in an outpatient behavioral health clinic. Six years of experience working with adults and juveniles involved in the criminal justice system. Has one year of experience working with women and children in a domestic violence shelter. One year experience working with children in a day treatment setting.

 

Specialties:

Provides counseling services children, adolescents, and adults in school and clinic settings. Enjoys providing services to minority and LGBTQIA populations. Works with individuals seeking treatment for a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, self-esteem, domestic violence, and anger management. Takes a strengths-based approach while utilizing a variety of techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness.


 

Ann Kirchner

Experience:

Over 23 years of experience working with adolescents, teens and families at inpatient settings including treatment foster care, group home and residential treatment. Provides individual, couple and family therapy for a wide range of issues. Also works with young children in play therapy.

 

Specialties:

Family systems, play therapy, domestic violence, anger management, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, attachment issues, depression, divorce/blended families, grief and loss, marriage/couples therapy, parent/child relationships, personal growth, post-traumatic stress, self-esteem issues, sexual abuse treatment, stress, and women's issues.

 

Philosophy of Counseling:

More than five years of experience working with adults in inpatient and outpatient treatment settings.

Provides counseling to individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, major life stressors, and substance abuse issues. Utilizes several therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strength-Based Therapy. Trained in Trauma-Informed Care.

 

Bill Secor

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

 

Experience:

Over 40 years of experience providing counseling services to individuals, couples/partners, families and groups in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Strong background working with veterans and other victims of violence, abuse, assault or trauma.

 

Specialties:

Post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, disruptive behavior disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and conduct disorders.


 

Rebecca Snell

Master's Degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Body Psychotherapy from Naropa University

Bachelor's Degree in Film Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder

Experience:

Two years working as an outpatient therapist; three years working as a crisis counselor; one-year internship at a counseling clinic in Denver, CO which focused on using the creative arts therapies as well as traditional therapies; one-year volunteering at Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence in Boulder, CO.

 

Specialties:

Works with older children, teenagers, and adults for issues relating to depression, anxiety, relational issues, trauma (physical, sexual, emotional abuse, medical injury, injury resulting from an accident or natural disaster), dissociation, domestic violence, social anxiety, self-esteem issues, family issues (parent-child conflict, family dynamics), issues with self-harm or suicidal ideation, and LGBTQ and gender identity issues.
