Child Advocacy Center to Open in Late 2010

After nearly two years of planning and fundraising, Family Services, in partnership with other local agencies, has broken ground on the new ‘Willow Tree’ Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center at 503 S Monroe Ave in downtown Green Bay.

With the help of community leaders, Family Services has raised $2.9 million for the construction of the new 6,500 square foot facility, and the first five years of operating costs. The initial campaign will continue through the construction with ongoing fundraising and grant writing to support the facility in the future.

According to recent statistics, there are more than 1,300 confirmed cases of child abuse in Brown County each year. The new ‘Willow Tree’ Child Advocacy Center will provide a child-friendly facility with a home-like atmosphere where children and their families can go to report abuse and begin their recovery. Specialized staff will attend to their immediate psychological and medical needs and provide ongoing therapy for as long as it’s needed. The center will complement services already provided by the county to assist victims of abuse.

Construction on the new ‘Willow Tree’ Child Advocacy Center is expected to continue throughout the summer and into early fall with a Grand Opening slated for late 2010. We wish to extend a special thank you to all the contributors, volunteers and community partners that made the Child Advocacy Center possible.
