The Sexual Assault Center of Family Services provides services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for victims of sexual violence, and their families and friends. Services are confidential and free of charge. The Sexual Assault Center provides sensitive services to all victims regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, or disability. All services described below are available in Brown, Door and Oconto Counties.

APRIL IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH  -  Each April in Wisconsin we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) throughout the state. This month was established to raise community awareness of sexual violence and to honor survivors and their supporters. It is a way to emphasize the need for community involvement and to increase community support for agencies providing sexual assault crisis services.  

Sexual assault is a complicated issue that impacts one in four women and one in six men at some point in their life. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity for communities to break the silence that surrounds issues of sexual assault. By addressing sexual violence issues and providing education and awareness, we can each contribute to creating a safe environment for all individuals. Core services provided by the Sexual Assault Center:

CRISIS INTERVENTION AND SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING
Crisis intervention and supportive counseling are available both by telephone and in person. Referrals are made to therapists when needed.

FOLLOW-UP ASSISTANCE
An advocate will continue to provide information and emotional support as long as the assistance is requested.

SUPPORT GROUPS   (Brown and Door Counties)
The Sexual Assault Center provides two support groups free of charge, for any woman who is dealing with past or present issues of
sexual violation.

     Brown County
     Date/Time:  Meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm

MEDICAL ADVOCACY
An advocate will be available to you at the hospital. The advocate will listen, offer support, and accompany you as you move through the medical process. The advocate will provide information for you to make informed choices.

LEGAL ADVOCACY
An advocate will support you at the police station if you choose to file a police report. The Sexual Assault Center's legal advocate will provide support and assist you throughout the court process.

SERVICES TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS
A diverse staff is available at the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services to provide services to Hispanic, Southeast Asian, Native American, and developmentally disabled communities. In addition, the Sexual Assault Center provides sensitive services to other populations including African American, elderly, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender victims.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Staff members are available to present information regarding sexual assault and abuse to organizations, school classes and other community groups. 

     -  Kids Can - a pre-school prevention program is available for children ages 3 - 6, designed to teach protective behaviors to

        prevent physical and sexual abuse.

     -  Prevention Education - developmentally appropriate prevention programs are available for grades K-12.

     -  In-Service Training - for professionals, church groups, and other community organizations

     -  Community Awareness - for church groups and other community organizations. An annual Take Back the Night event is

        held in April as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES            

The sexual assault center needs your help. We're looking for volunteers and interns to provide support, advocacy, and follow-up assistance to victims of sexual assault and abuse.  No experience is necessary and flexible training schedules are provided. Help make a difference in your community and gain valuable work experience.
