Relational Trauma Perspective

(Identifying and Intervening in the Impact of Childhood Abuse and Trauma on Children and Adult Survivors)

What is The Relational Trauma Perspective?

The Relational Trauma Perspective is an emerging viewpoint that addresses the short- and long-term harmful effects of

traumatic stress on children, adults and families. This approach is successful in dealing with trauma by utilizing education,

relationship building, and a variety of healing techniques that empower the survivor to direct their own recovery.

Research in the emerging field of Traumatology demonstrates that our most difficult-to-treat, suicidal and self-injuring patients

have histories of childhood trauma. Understanding the developmental and biological consequences of early trauma and the

resulting traumatic stress will lead to mental health care that is more clinically effective and significantly cost-saving.
