Family Wellness Workshops

(Brought to you by Parent Connection, serving the Fox Cities and Oshkosh areas)

Find out the latest information about child growth and development, stress management, positive discipline, communication, the teen years, and many other issues related to parenting. Parent Connection offers a variety of educational workshops that can help parents feel better about themselves and the roles they fill. Workshop offerings include:

Based in the Fox Valley & Oshkosh:

-   1-2-3 Magic: A behavior management program for parents of children ages 3-12, based on  

    the book, "1-2-3 Magic," by Thomas Phelan.

-   1-2-3-4 Parents: Designed especially for parents of young children, you will learn 

    how to care for your child at various ages and stages of development. Workshop 

    discusses how to build a loving bond with your child over the years.

-   Let's Talk Toddlers: This 3-week session offers opportunities for parent(s) to     

    discuss the challenging issues of toddlerhood. Topics include toilet training, sleep     

    habits, discipline, mealtime, and more.

-   Love & Logic: A 3-week session for parents of children, ages 6-13. Teaches practical 

    techniques for raising responsible kids including: recognizing the four steps of responsibility, 

    identifying who is in control over the situation, offering appropriate choices, setting limits, 

    recognizing empathetic responses, and utilizing appropriate and logical consequences.

-   Raising Your Spirited Child: Build a vision of your 3-10 year old's strengths to   

    enhance their creativity and spirit.  Based on the work of Mary Sheedy Kurchinka, this   

    four-week workshop offers parents a more positive and rewarding approach.

-   Strengthening Families: Four weeks of interactive classes for parents and their 

    children, ages 10-14. The youth group will discuss topics such as preparing for their 

    teen years, strengthening family communication, and avoiding problems with drugs and 

    alcohol. The parent group will review what to expect from their teens and pre-teens at 

    various ages, rule making and consequences, how to solve problems with youth, and 

    ways to show love and support. Families will then come together for an hour of activities 

    and games, discussing family strengths and solving problems.

-   Successful Blending of Families: Explore the dynamics of living in a blended family, 

    learn the key factors critical to the development of a healthy, blended family.

-   Two Homes, No Battles: Don't let your children become casualties during or after a 

    divorce! Class addresses successful co-parenting for divorcing, separating, custodial, 

    and non-custodial parents.

-   Within My Reach: Building Skills For Positive Relationships: A four-week group based

    program for parents with children of any age who are unmarried and either A) wondering if 

    their current boyfriend/girlfriend is "the one" or B) single, but looking for Mr./Ms. Right. 

    Topics include: communicating effectively and resolving conflicts; making choices in 

    relationships to provide stability for your children; relationship skills with important people in   

    your life. The goal of this program is to clarify your vision for a present/future romantic 

    relationship. Designed for individuals only.

Based in Oshkosh:

-   Parent Aide: This free, family education program is conducted through in-home, weekly 

    visitation for families who have at least one child under the age of six years.

-   Nurturing: This popular, group-based family education program includes families with 

    children ages birth to 12. The family takes classes together and learns how to communicate 

    more effectively to strengthen their relationship.

-   Active Parenting: This six-week, video-based program empowers families by providing 

    parents with the skills to help their children survive and thrive in our changing world.

-   Active Parenting of Teens: Identical in structure to the Active Parenting program, but 

    designed specifically for families with children ages 13-18.

These programs are held in various locations throughout the Fox Valley & Oshkosh and typically meet over a period of weeks. There is a small fee to attend, however scholarships are available for those in need. Free child care is available during most workshops if children are pre-registered. Community Presentations: Parent Connection also offers speakers to businesses, schools, community agencies, and more on a variety of parenting topics. Program fees vary depending on length and location. Call (920) 739-4226 ext. 108 for more information.
