Day Treatment For Children & Adolescents

The Day Treatment program is designed to meet the mental health needs of children between the ages of 7 and 18 who are exhibiting problematic behaviors. Through this structured program, a wide variety of services are offered including individual and family counseling, group therapy specific to the needs of the child, and academic assistance.

Target Population

Day Treatment staff have the experience and expertise to work effectively with children who:

w   Have behaviors of defiance, hostility, and negativism; lose their temper; argue with adults; blame others for his/her mistakes; act angry or resentful; deliberately annoy people

w   Have behaviors of inattention and/or hyperactivity; do not seem to listen when spoken to directly; do not follow through on instruction; avoid or dislike school work or homework; leave their seat in classroom settings when remaining seated is expected

w   Violate the basic rights of others; act aggressively toward people and animals; destroy property; lie or steal; violate rules such as curfew, run away from home, are truant from school; are depressed or suicidal

w   Demonstrate substance abuse behaviors, have a negative change of friends; hangovers; declining grades in school; use of drugs; skipping school

w   Have difficulties dealing with the impact of sexual abuse including issues of trust, fearfulness, and acting out behavior

Treatment Team

Our professional treatment team includes a consulting child psychiatrist, a consulting psychologist, social workers, clinical therapists, a registered nurse, and an expressive/recreational counselor.

Advantages of Day Treatment

w   Provides an alternative to inpatient care
w   Cost is considerably less expensive than inpatient care
w   Serves as a transition from inpatient care to out patient care
w   Keeps the child in the home while providing therapeutic programming
w   More therapeutic resources are available than can be provided by out patient treatment

Goals of Day Treatment

w   Support parents and assist them to become confident with their parenting techniques
w   Encourage youth to manage feelings such as anger and sadness
w   Increase youth’s self-esteem
w   Foster the development of academic skills
w   Improve communication skills between peers and adults
w   Offer education on issues such as family problems, substance abuse, sexual abuse, and health-related issues
w   Present alternatives to delinquent behavior patterns
w   Provide recreational and expressive therapy opportunities

A consultation will be scheduled with our program staff to assess the child's difficulties and make recommendations for treatment. Fees are payable through private insurance or medical assistance. We will work closely with you do develop convenient financial arrangements.
